We have heard this line several times in several ways but have we tried to understand or picture what this means?
Try to picture a child with a kite..
Kite flying has to be set in certain conditions like it has to be In an open field, no wires coming in the way and most importantly it has to be a windy day.
With the external conditions set, the child now has to hold the string and throw the kite up in the air and pull the string until the wind catches the kite. And continuously make sure that the person flying the kite maintains the tension of the wind and the string so the kite will keep flying.
If the wind lets go a little bit, the person flying the kite now has to pull the string until there is tension, until the wind catches the kite again.
How many of you know this can get quite tiring…
And some of you may agree, that our ability to love similar to flying kites – as long as the right conditions are in place, we can love. As long as all the conditions we set or need are met, we can love.
Give your self a minute and think about it… “If you do this, i will forgive you.” or “If you give me what I want I will love you” what you are really saying is meet my conditions first for me to be able to love you or forgive you. What you are not saying is.. I cannot love you until these conditions are met.. Here we can realize that our love is very limited, our love is conditional and imperfect.
And knowing this we cannot discount the fact that we can not have have every condition met.. What happens in situations where there is no wind? If you were kite flying you’d have to run and pull the kite. Pull.. pull.. pull.. and run! run!! run!!! And how many of you know that this is not a fun kind of kite flying.. It gets very tiring and exhausting. But that is how some of our relationship with God are.. some of our relationships are tiring because it is based on waiting for conditions to be met in the mean time you are using your will power to keep it going..
As we read God’s word, truly we should be thankful that we serve a God who loves us unconditionally. Jesus had something interesting to say about God. God our father makes the sun rise and set on both the evil and the good, he sends rain which is equivalent to blessings on both the just and the unjust.
Always remember that God loves you, me and everyone. Not just the believer but to the unbeliever with no conditions. Just simple and perfect kind of love.
The solution for our limited ability and supply to love is Gods unlimited capacity unconditional capacity to love us.
Do ponder on this thought and have a great week ahead. 🙂
